INAUGURAL CEREMONY

Time: 04-30pm – 06-15pm
The inaugural function was started with an energetic performance of “chingari mellam” which is a traditional welcoming art form. Followed by  Rajagiri Anthem.

The welcome address was delivered by the principal of Rajagiri college of social sciences Dr. Joseph .I.Injodey. The introduction of DYUTI 2013 was delivered by Head of the social work department, Dr.T.O.Poulose, in which he gave the an overview of the conference DYUTI-Developmental Yearnings for united and transformed India, meaning SPARK is an annual conference of the School of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. Through DYUTI, the college try to spread the spark of knowledge and wisdom to the entire humanity.  The presidential address was delivered by Provincial and manager, Rev Fr. Jose Alex CMI. He took us on the pathways of the birth and growth of Rajagiri and the efforts of CMI groups behind it.SONY DSC
The inauguration was done by the chief guest, Prof,K.J Kurien, hon’ble deputy chairman of RajyaSabha, Govt. of India. He inaugurated the ceremony by lightening the lamp. He mentioned that the social work as a discipline which needs to bring an impact and integrate it in people’s everyday life.
Followed by the inauguration we had the director’s address by Rev Dr. Antony Kariyil CMI. Dr.Raju Vargheese Prof. UMB, Rev.Dr.Prashanth Palakapallil,Principal SH College Thevara, Prof.Evelyn Le Roy, Katho,Belgium facilitated in the conference.
The DYUTI 2013 logo was introduced by the designer named Sr.Nisha V.A,social work dept.

Our hon’ble chief guest Prof.PJ Kurien awarded the designer for the conference logo.Vote of thanks was delivered by Dean & Administrator Dr.Mary Venus Joseph.The keynote address was delivered by Dr.Giridhar Babu, Public health foundation India. During the bkey note address the Dr. Giridhar Babu stated that the middle aged  are at the high risks of public health.he  noted that present generation are also at the risk of hyper tension and sex ratio. He recommended the changes in the system from childhood. He opined that our children must be taught tom respect the differences and tolerance and respect women and  teachers. He also thew lights on weakening health scenario in Kerala.  The ceremony was concluded with the national anthem.

Film festival “ WAVES”
Film Festival
The international conference organized by Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, on  GLOBAL PUBLIC HEALTH started with a film festival  on 3rd Jan. 2013. The programme was chaired by Mr.Premjith Senior Consultant, BCC, NHRM and Dr.Baby and the presidential address was delivered by Dr.Poulose, HOD, social work department, RCSS. Four documentary films were shown. The documentary films shown were:
‘In the name of medicine’ by K P Sais, presents before the people with a question in a time when people take medicines to deal with common cold, why is our India ready to accept the drugs banned in other countries and stress on health is the fundamental right, mental right and not a concession.

‘+ve living’ by C V Vanaja, in this documentary explain all about innocent women being affected with HIV, their coping mechanisms to handle the situations by engaging themselves in different activities to lead a happy life.
‘While the sentinel sleeps’ by Arun Varma, this documentary depicts the life of those affected with HIV in Nagaland. It also shows that those affected people can make a difference by reaching out to others like them and helping them live the rest of their life.
‘Quality of death’ by Rosie Brown. The mains themes depicted in the film were after effects of the banned drugs on people; life of people especially women affected by HIV/AIDS and the pain and palliative care services in India. Several delegates passed out comments about the films.  Mr.Premjith concluded the session.

Session on Public health and Psychosocial Scenario was held on 3rd January 2013 in Fr.Jose Alex Hall at 1.30 PM. Four resource persons presented their papers on their topics. Dr. Thomas O’Hare, professor of Boston College presented his paper on Examining Subjective Distress from Trauma in People with Schizophrenia. Regarding implications for public health generally and social work in mental health, practitioners should consider routine assessment of losses and grief counseling, when necessary, for people with schizophrenia. Dr. P M Mathew faculty of Central University of Kerala presented a paper on Physical Health and Psychological condition of Muslim Women married off before the age of eighteen. He recommended compulsory pre-marital counseling and awareness classes to improve the physical and psychological condition of Muslim married women.

Anjali Dhengle student of Tata Institute of Social Sciences presented a paper on The Psychosocial Work Risks In Profession Of Social Work: A Product Of Globalization And An Emerging Health Issue. She talked about the changing nature of jobs in profession of Social Work; increasing role stressors in the profession of social work and its effects. A paper on Health and Well-being of Elderly-impact of Psycho Social Status was presented by K Suneetha, assistant professor of Vikrama Simhapuri University. Rights of elderly, Social Workers intervention for the well being of elderly etc were discussed.

The final Presentation was by Anil John, Asst.Professor  of Rajagiri college. His presentation was about Life Situation and Family Burden of Parents of Children with Maligant Neoplasm. His presentation showed that high number of children is affected by Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). He concluded by saying that Childhood cancer is a family disease since it affects everyone in the family. The session was concluded with a small discussion about the topics.
